Glass Renewed: Hannah Gibson and the History of Glass
This new exhibition at the Museum of Brands presents glass artworks by award-winning artist and SDC member Hannah Gibson, shown alongside outstanding examples of glass from the Robert Opie collection.
Overview
This new exhibition presents glass artworks by award-winning artist Hannah Gibson, shown alongside outstanding examples of glass from the Robert Opie collection.
The Museum of Brands display brings together spectacular artworks and historic glass to explore the materiality and sustainability of glass. Alongside pieces from Hannah’s 'Recycling Narratives: Whispering Sweet Nothings' series, selections from the glass collection delve into the history of glass making, the beauty of glass and future of its production.
Hannah’s art glass sculptures are inspired by childhood memories and the stories that are embedded in everyday objects. The glass used in the sculptures is reclaimed from discarded objects and the work touches issues such as environmental responsibility and previous systems of reusing glass. The artworks open up the museum collection looking at how the colour and form of glass is used in branding, as well as the glass heritage of many popular consumer products .
