Event details

Overview

The Sunbury Embroidery Gallery is exhibiting a selection of art pieces from The Diana Springall Collection, one of the most diverse and nationally important collections of fine art embroidery spanning almost 70 years. Selected pieces from the collection form the 'Poetry of Stitch' exhibition.

This exhibition is the result of an exciting opportunity for children and young adults living in Spelthorne and Surrey between the ages of 6 & 19, to get creative and submit a poem based on any one of the 14 pieces of contemporary textile art selected from Diana's collection. They had to choose their favourite piece within their age range that inspired them, study it and write a poem about their experience when looking at the art piece. The winning entries for each age group and art piece form an integral part of the exhibition with the winning poems displayed alongside each art piece.

Artist, collector and writer, Diana Springall is an Honorary Fellow of the SDC. Buying pieces of textile art from graduate students and artists has enabled her to support both them and others to appreciate this much undervalued art form.
