The Alan Peters Furniture Award 2026
Applications are invited for the 2026 Alan Peters Furniture Award. This biennial online competition celebrates the enduring legacy of the late furniture designer maker.
This biennial online competition celebrates the enduring legacy of the late furniture designer maker Alan Peters OBE (1933–2009), a former Fellow of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. The award is open to any resident UK citizen over 18 who has a passion and flair for woodworking and design. The application fee is £20 per entry with a maximum of two entries.
The award focuses on hand techniques championing the ethos that Alan Peters embodied in his simple, understated functional furniture - a profound respect for wood and the mastery of hand tools, respecting the nature of wood.
Unlike previous awards where the total prize value has been £1800, in 2026 the only prize sponsor so far is English Woods for a £300 voucher and so the award will proceed regardless of whether additional sponsors are found. Winners are not automatically assigned; they must meet the existing high standards of craftsmanship and design and the main value of this award is the prestige of being a winner alongside previous winners.
The Judges are Andrew Lawton FSDC, Jeremy Broun FSDC (organizer) and the guest judge for 2026 is furniture designer maker Katie Walker.
Application forms are available at www.jeremybroun.co.uk/alanpetersaward
And the submission deadline is 31 July 2026.
