David Bartram MSDC

Furniture & Boxes

About David
David set up his workshop in 1981 in Norwich before moving to a purpose built rural workshop in South Norfolk, where he specialises in handmade furniture, made mostly from East Anglia hardwood, also kitchens and joinery for period houses. The gallery attached to the workshop has pieces to show the furniture made and some of the types of woods used. The workshop also undertakes restoration projects for organisations such as the National Trust, English Heritage, The Landmark Trust, and Cambridge & Oxford colleges. David trained at West Dean College in West Sussex and Norwich City College.
Biography Back to top

David's work draws on his background in restoration and conservation, particularly when it comes to classical proportions such as those used by Chippendale. James Krenov, who was a prominent figure during David's formative years in the craft inspired much in the way of the use of burrs and spalted timbers, minimal finishes and a hybrid approach between power tools and hand tools.
