Mixed Media

About Janette
Janette works primarily with metal, often taking inspiration from her photographic images of nature and reflections. Interests in textiles, photography and horticulture and the techniques and processes employed within these disciplines also provide inspiration for her metal work as well as inspiring new work with mixed media. By exploring other materials and subjects she has found the lines between her interests, working methods and chosen materials have blurred.

Biography Back to top

Janette works primarily with metal however more recently her practice has begun to evolve to include mixed media.

Prior to studying for an art and design degree in 3D design and craft Janette studied garden design at Writtle College. After designing and creating three RHS show gardens she decided to concentrate on creating art for the garden and with this in mind chose to concentrate on working with metal as her primary material.

She began by combining techniques used in horticulture, referencing grafting and weaving and sewing associated with textiles and applied them to forged mild steel to create metal sculptures based upon plant forms.

Whilst nature is a constant source of inspiration she has used her photographic images both as inspiration for ideas and by manipulating the images into patterns to be translated into metal sculptures and the creation of woven and digitally printed fabrics.

Janette’s work is constantly evolving to include new materials and incorporate ideas and observations gathered from other disciplines.
