Jonathan Pearce MSDC
Furniture & Boxes
Jonathan has always been interested in making ‘things’.
He started at a young age making Airfix model kits. Many a happy hour were spent sitting on the sofa in the front room, tray on lap, making and painting model aircraft – he was lucky to have a very trusting mother. From these kits, Jonathan progressed into making flying aircraft, aircraft powered by rubber bands, aircraft powered by small internal combustion engines, and finally radio-controlled aircraft.
His enjoyment of making model kits came to an abrupt halt with the purchase of one of the first home computers. Programming then became his passion. It then became his job, and for 22 years Jonathan worked in the IT business writing software for financial institutions.
But all the while in the back of Jonathan’s mind was making ‘things’ – kitchen cabinets for home, small wooden object for presents and gifts, a large wooden toy chest as a present for his young nephew, turned objects on one of two lathes ‘in the shed’. The list goes on.
In 2007 the opportunity arose, and Jonathan resigned from his job and enrolled in a year long fine furniture making course.
At the end of the course in 2008, Jonathan Pearce Fine Furniture was established.
Jonathan takes his influences from two different design styles – Shaker being the first and Art Deco the second. Combining these two ideals, Jonathan produces furniture for the modern home that has the practicality and simplicity of Shaker design, merged with the symmetrical/geometric design of Art Deco.
