Jude Kingshott MSDC
Mixed Media
Jude Kingshott is an artist living and working in Kent. Creative from a very early age, her practice has developed extensively over the years as can be seen from her CV. Following time as a student at a textile studio in Surrey, Jude took on the role of Studio Manager where the experience, and working with the students, further informed her practice.
Jude's principle outlets are exhibiting and teaching both around the UK and across Europe. She also teaches at her home studio and has been featured in several magazines and podcasts in both the UK & Europe.
She is inspired by Japanese Indigo and Shibori. In 2023 she travelled to Japan to further extend her knowledge of Indigo dyeing, Shibori and the related processes and techniques. Jude enjoyed a period of study in Japan with Makiko Tokunaga in Naruto, and likewise with Taka Ishii in Fujino. As can be seen in her practice and teaching, she has further developed her skills extensively is clearly influenced by time spent in Japan.
Botanical printing (also called eco-printing) is an art form that uses mordants, tannins and the natural pigments in leaves to make leaf prints that reveal the textures, patterns and beauty of nature. The process involves steaming or submerging plant material in water to transfer the plants pigments onto the chosen surface. Jude use leaves from her garden or harvested from walks in her local area. She loves to add hand stitching as an enhancement transforming the outcome into a wide variety of wall art, handmade books and vessels.
