Mixed Media

Kas Williams is an artist with a profound love of colour. For her it has a lyrical energy and exuberance that is a key element in her work and combined with the layering of pattern and texture it has become synonymous with her art. Experimentation and play are important parts of her practice and she has a very loose approach to making. Painting is the foundation and she works intuitively with materials and mark making directly onto whatever surface she is using. Inspiration comes from an eclectic mix of sources including the natural world, contemporary architecture, tribal decoration and rituals which combine to create a visual vocabulary expressed in abstract form. Music and soundscapes are also subliminal feeds and are often reflected in gestures and marks.
Each piece of work grows organically as layers of colour pattern and texture combine with a three dimensional element to create floating fields that are anchored with pins to a laser cut frame. The combination of materials working together bring reflections, depth and texture to the finished piece.
