Navah Langmeyer LSDC
Jewellery
A mathematician by training and employment, Navah Langmeyer took up metalwork and jewellery making at the Baltimore Jewelry Center in 2016 where she discovered her particular passion for enamelling in the winter of 2019. Since emigrating to North Yorkshire in 2021, Navah has become increasingly active in the British enamelling community.
Navah's starting point is often water, particularly the ocean, as she's never met a body of water she didn’t like. However, the broader landscape, her mathematical background, current events, and pretty much anything she observes or experiences can provide inspiration. Her work ranges from quite literal, if whimsical, representations to abstractions attempting to capture a particular mood.
Navah's work is largely material-driven and incorporates traditional, experimental, and unconventional approaches to enamels, metals, and alternative elements to yield sculptural effects. She's fascinated by the characteristics of enamel and the widely-varied results possible with the medium. All her construction uses cold connections, which adds an additional, appealing aspect of puzzle-solving to her process; every piece is a one-of-a-kind experiment. Navah discovers many of her techniques by accident, and has come to appreciate her failures almost as much as her successes (eventually).
