Sussex Craft Week
A wonderful celebration of making and makers
Overview
Organised by ROSA, The Arts & Culture Magazine for Sussex, in partnership with West Dean, this is a new festival of craft with venues and events across the region setting out to present Sussex as both the heart of the contemporary craft scene and the home of the heritage craft revival.
West Sussex highlights would be The Sussex Craft Awards at Newlands House Gallery, a whole range of Craft Week courses at West Dean, Tadek Beutlich in Ditchling, exhibitions in Arundel, Petworth Art & Antiques Trail and wonderful open studios with demonstrations across the region.
Sussex is home to the heritage craft industry. Its ceramics history dates back to medieval times, and is famous for the Bloomsbury Group, for influential collectives such as the Ditchling Artists and Graffham Weavers, as well as being an important place for the Modernist and Surrealist movements.
