Society announces Executive Director

Jenny Starr has been announced as Executive Director of the Society of Designer Craftsmen. The role of Executive Director is a newly created position, with Jenny being the very first to take up this important new role.

Commenting on her recent appointment Jenny Starr said:
"I am honoured to be taking on this dynamic new role. As Executive Director, I’m looking forward to honing a new and exciting programme to serve our community of members, as well as welcoming in new craftspeople, partners, and supporters.

This is a pivotal time to be raising the profile of such a unique society. Whilst we reflect on the Society of Designer Craftsmen's longevity and its role in promoting and supporting craft practice over 130 years, the organisation is well placed to look to the future of craft as sustainable work, and offer a space for positive activism, care and creativity."

Kate Mason, Chair – Society of Designer Craftsmen commenting on the new appointment:
“It is with great delight that I welcome Jenny Starr to the Society of Designer Craftsmen. Jenny will be starting her new role as Executive Director at the Society in early December 2023. This role is brand new, with no predecessors. I can’t think of a more passionate and talented ‘all-rounder’ to take on this exciting new position.

Jenny brings energy and an infectious enthusiasm to the role, alongside her significant experience in fundraising, project and partnership development, programming, and planning.

I very much look forward to working with her alongside Council and know she will be a huge asset to the organisation bringing fresh new insights, ideas, and opportunities. “
