Gane Trust Award
Each year the Gane Trust gives an award to a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen taking part in their annual exhibition. We are delighted to announce this year the prize was awarded to furniture designer and maker Sean Evelegh (MSDC).
The Gane Trust is a grant-making organisation promoting arts, crafts and design as well as social care and well being. This year, the award judges were looking for a designer, maker or artist whose practice could benefit from the award to make 'a transformative step through innovation or development of their skills'.
Sean Evelegh MSDC was awarded the prize of £500 at 'Designer Craft at Bankside', the Society's exhibition at Bankside Gallery, London. His passion for creating beautiful wooden furniture embraces the whole process, from milling up the tree, to applying the final coat of finish.
Sean said:
'Thank you so much to the Gane Trust and the Society for this award, it is a real honour to have received it. I am so excited by the prospect of learning from a master carver, and to develop a new skill that I hope will add another dimension to my furniture. The award will also help me get a set of good quality tools that will last a lifetime.'
