The Poseidon Loving Cup

A unique hand raised silver and gilt 'Poseidon Loving Cup' inset with gems and pearls. Handcrafted by Steve Wager FSDC, marked for Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee and the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths.

Society fellow, Steve Wager FSDC, has over 40 years experience as a skilled gold and silversmith and jeweller. His craft foundations lie in a five-year apprenticeship with the celebrated designer Algernon Asprey, himself a member of the world renowned London silversmith and jewellery dynasty. Following his training with Algernon, Steve then worked for more than 25 years with the Asprey family at its prestigious Bond Street premises, where he mastered the art of chasing, box making, forging, hammering, raising and mounting, gaining invaluable experience in his chosen craft. Steve is a Freeman of the City of London and the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths and a valued SDC trustee and council member.

His 'Poseidon Loving Cupwas produced in the second part of the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown, being entirely handcrafted by Steve in his workshop in Camberwell, London. It was a true ‘passion’ project, showcasing his belief that fine baroque style craftmanship can still be created today. Free of the normal time and commercial constraints that ordinarily govern a craftsman’s life, Steve’s imagination and skill were allowed full rein. And this elaborate masterpiece was born. It took Steve over 500 hours to produce and was, he says, a gift to himself.

The 'Poseidon Loving Cup' is currently with Bonhams Auction House, London. Full details can be found by following the link:
