The Ancient Silk Road in Mongolia
18 – 30 August 2025
If you possess a quest for knowledge and an adventurous spirit why not join this unique trip to Mongolia: a land of horses and herdsmen and one of the last, great, undisturbed wildernesses on earth. A land of amazing skilled, traditional craftspeople.
The people of Mongolia are some of the last truly nomadic pastoralists in the world who can trace their ancestors back to the early travellers and trading pioneers of the Silk Route. The trip will encompass living in a Mongolian ger (or yurt) as part of a family and include visits to artists and craftsmen: including felt makers, appliqué workers and embroiderers. Wood, amber and bone carving will also be covered, as well as the crafting of wood and percussion musical instruments.
Music, singing and dance are an integral part of everyday life for Mongolians. So, too, is the predominant religion of Buddhism, as the beautiful paintings, murals and sculptures that adorn the country’s many monasteries bear witness to. We'll experience Mongolian culture, see its wonderful religious art and also visit its museums to take in the early ceramics and craftsmanship found in their collections.
