SDC In Conversation: The Craft of Less - Designing for Longevity

The evening event will begin at 5.30pm with some welcome drinks, a chance to mingle and enjoy some engaging live demonstrations from members. We'll then gather for a lively panel discussion featuring SDC members, bladesmith Sam Gleeson, weavers Sharon Kearley and Ali Holloway, and jeweller Sarah Drew, all expertly guided by our panel chair ceramicist Emma Lacey.
Our panel will explore how working more thoughtfully and using reclaimed and natural materials encourages creativity, reduces waste, and builds a deeper respect for the world around us. By slowing down production and valuing attention and longevity over speed, we'll invite our audience to rethink consumption and discover how craft can help shape a more sustainable future - a future of fewer things, that are better made.
Guests will also have the chance to see live demonstrations up close from SDC members Clare Pentlow, Helena Powell, Jessica Palmer, Ksenia Semirova and Susannah Weiland.These demonstrations will offer an opportunity to experience traditional craftsmanship and contemporary sustainable making side by side.
