New Members
Having submitted their work for independent assessment the Society welcomes Fabrizia Bazzo MSDC (Glass) and Henrietta MacPhee LSDC (Ceramics).
Sumi Perera Paper Manipulation at RA
Sumi Perera FSDC will be running a course on paper manipulation and 3D assemblage at the Royal Academy (March 16-17th 2019) to make a site-specific work for their 250th Anniversary in the new Clore Leaning centre.
Designer Crafts 2018 - Exhibition Video Highlights
In July 2018 the Society of Designer Craftsmen celebrated its 130th year of exhibiting its members work. Our annual exhibition was held at Chelsea College of Arts, London and we commissioned Layton Thompson to record video highlights of The Cookhouse Gallery, The Triangle Gallery and our famous Shop within the Show. World of Threads Festival, Canada 2018
Sarah Waters LSDC has been selected to exhibit her work at the World Festival of Threads in Toronto, Canada later this year. Her solo gallery will include her Felt Monoliths made mostly from local British wool and shortlisted from thousands of worldwide entries.
Four MSDC members awarded full Fellowship of the Society
Hugh Miller (Furniture), Sarah Perry (Ceramics), Joey Richardson (Wood) and Cathryn Shilling (Glass) have been awarded the Society’s highest honour of Fellowship of the Society at Designer Crafts 2018. Members are proposed and judged by Fellows on the Society’s council and can be awarded Fellowship for commitment to Craft, promotion of the Crafts and/or the standard of their work.
LSDC members awarded full MSDC membership
Having submitted their work for independent assessment the Society wishes to congratulate Kuniko Maeda, Diana McKinnon, Naomi Beevers and Geraldine Festenstein on being awarded full membership of the Society and conferred MSDC status.
SDC 2018: Pollie Weiss Prize 2018 awarded to Linda Lideka (LSDC)
John Weiss is pleased to announce that this year's Pollie Weiss Prize, awarded to a new Licentiate exhibiting in the Society's annual show for the use of colour in textiles, goes to Linda Lideka.
SDC 2018 prize for excellence in the work of a Licentitate winners announced
Jewellery designers Christine Johnson & Jessica Noble have been jointly awarded this year’s SDC prize for excellence in the work of a Licentitate at Designer Crafts 2018. This award automatically confers full membership to the recipients.
