The Encyclopedia of Woodworking Techniques by Jeremy Broun FSDC
This original '200 Top Authors Award' book in 1993 has been updated and revamped in 2018. A unique feature of this book is the Themes section - a gallery of mouthwatering designs mostly chosen by Jeremy and including the work of Fred Baier, Katie Walker, Thomas Vaughan, Jolyon Yates, Christine Meyer-Eaglestone, Andrew Lawton and John Makepeace. Call for New Members
The North Surrey group of the SDC was formed in 1993 with the aim of holding regular, local exhibitions. The present members working within their different disciplines- ceramics, glass, jewellery and textiles - showcase work and present exhibitions that appeal to all. Book Launch - Alan Caiger-Smith and the Legacy of the Aldermaston Pottery
A new book by MSDC ceramicist Jane White entitled "Alan Caiger-Smith and the Legacy of the Aldermaston Pottery" will be available to purchase following a Book Launch, Signing and Weekend Talk on Sat 8th Dec, 2–4 pm at the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford. Sumi Perera Paper Manipulation at RA
Sumi Perera FSDC will be running a course on paper manipulation and 3D assemblage at the Royal Academy (March 16-17th 2019) to make a site-specific work for their 250th Anniversary in the new Clore Leaning centre.
World of Threads Festival, Canada 2018
Sarah Waters LSDC has been selected to exhibit her work at the World Festival of Threads in Toronto, Canada later this year. Her solo gallery will include her Felt Monoliths made mostly from local British wool and shortlisted from thousands of worldwide entries.
SDC Members Shortlisted for Surrey Artist of the Year 2018
Surrey Artists' Open Studios - SDC members Joe Szabo (MSDC) & Stephanie Wright (MSDC) have been shortlisted for Surrey Artist of the Year shortlisted, with an exhibition at New Ashgate Gallery, Farnham starting in September.
250th Royal Academy Summer Exhibition
Julie Heaton LSDC has had her free machine embroidered drawing selected for this year's Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition. The piece, entitled 'The Bristol 2 Litre Engine', can be found hanging in Grayson Perry's yellow gallery. The RA show continues until 20th August.
Sam Fanaroff FSDC awarded British Empire Medal
Sam Fanaroff, SDC Fellow and founder of the Sussex Guild of Craftsmen, has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2018 for his services to Crafts. Sam will be exhibiting alongside other Fellows, Members and Licentiates of the Society at the Designer Crafts 'Hand of the Maker' exhibition at Chelsea College of Art in July 2018.
