Woven Textiles

About Fiona
Her practice explores the wild & ancient spirit of the Scottish landscape, translating its raw beauty into tactile, expressive forms. Through tapestry & tufting, she transforms natural fibres & found materials into richly textured surfaces that invite touch and contemplation. Inspired by shifting seasons, rural journeys, & enduring Scottish myths, her work captures the emotional atmosphere of place. Ideas emerge through sketchbooks, lino prints, and photography before evolving through weaving and tufting—acts of translation that fuse traditional craft with contemporary artistic expression.
Biography Back to top

At the heart of her craft is hand-woven tapestry, a meticulous and ancient technique in which horizontal weft threads are carefully packed over vertical warp threads to build pattern, form, and imagery. This slow, physical process creates work with warmth, tactility, and a sense of timeless presence. By pairing traditional methods with contemporary sensibilities, she bridges past and present—inviting viewers to experience the landscape not as a distant scene, but as a textured, living force.

Her tapestries and tufted pieces stand as intimate translations of place: modern textile artworks that honour the history of the craft while offering a bold, sophisticated alternative to conventional wall art.
