Charlotte Grierson FSDC
Woven Textiles
Charlotte trained as a weave designer learning about the different weave structures and how to create patterns and textures in fabric and to work with colour. However it was experimenting with the making process itself that most fascinated her. Charlotte's most recent work comes directly from this experimentation and has led to a collection of woven wall mounted artwork weaving with a range of materials including paper yarn and wire.
Charlotte works with a weaver in west Wales to produce a collection of scarves in 100% lambswool. Designed and sampled in her London studio they are woven in small batch production on old power looms in what was the heart of the old Welsh woollen industry. Back in her studio the scarves are individually finished including the hand twisted pearl fringes.
Charlotte also teaches workshops from her London studio for all levels of experience. Whether you’re a beginner or refining your craft, her guidance blends traditional skills with contemporary design, inspiring confidence and creativity.
In 2007 Charlotte was selected to join the Art Workers' Guild and in the same year as a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and 2017 was elected to become a Fellow of the Society.
