Heidi Lichterman FSDC

Woven Textiles

About Heidi
Heidi's been weaving in silk since 1977. The way silk feels and the way it takes the dye, allows her to create very subtle colour blending as well as sharp contrasts using the Ikat dyeing method. Most of her weaving life, she has designed and woven large hangings for corporate and public spaces, but always finds time to weave scarves and shawls using two different types of silk. These are very personal. The colours are her reaction to the weather, seasons, moods of the landscape. She catches the hedgerows in the shawls; the East Anglian skies in the scarves.

Biography Back to top

Heidi creates wall hangings and wearable art in abstract patterns inspired by nature, out of pleasure and for clients worldwide. Originally from the US, she now lives close to Cambridge, UK, in a tranquil, English village. When she is not weaving in her studio, she is out riding her horses.

Wall hangings are her passion. They are usually large and suitable for use in corporate settings or large private houses and are made using silk and wire. Her scarves are individually designed and are woven from silk. Each is a signed artwork.
