Teresa C Strachan MSDC
Woven Textiles
Teresa is fascinated with thread design and likes to push the boundaries, apart from threading irregularities and morphing patterns, she regularly uses extra thread techniques which alter the colour spectrum of her work in a subtle way.
Teresa has a preference for spun silk and Soysilk, but is constantly looking for other sustainable and ecological yarns which retain the haptic quality she finds so important. Over time, Teresa has created a library of over 50 totally unique structures which she can refer to, combining with others or improving upon.
Teresa mostly works using pointed draft threading, with a natural preference for geometric patterns. For structure design inspiration, she has looked to Islamic art and architecture, church and cathedral tiling, patchwork techniques, and Scandinavian and Scottish knitting patterns. Colour inspiration often comes from nature.
