About Nancy
Nancy utilises the colours and textures of glass fusing materials and techniques as a fine art medium in her work, an intuitive and painterly response to an image or drawing, further enhanced by the surprises created during the glass firing process. Fundamental to this process are her landscape drawings in charcoal and pastel, which often provide the inspiration and starting point for her glass work, and become pieces of art in their own right. Her favourite inspirational locations are South Devon, West Cornwall and the South Downs.

Nancy creates her artworks by working with Bullseye glass frits and painting with glass enamels, layering translucent glass colours and utilising the textures and effects unique to glass, often adding and firing sometimes several layers.
Nancy’s focus is to create a feeling of depth within her work, drawing the viewer in to the scenes she presents to them. She plays with the translucent qualities of glass to achieve this, and the ability it provides to travel visually through many layers of colour.
She loves the work of Turner, Monet and Rothko, and is also inspired by photographers such as Margaret Soraya.

Her glass pieces are framed or mounted on boards to be wall-hung, or placed in wood blocks as free-standing pieces. Sometimes they are created as freestanding waves; some evolve into more functional forms such as bowls.

Nancy has a background in Art and Design, including a BA (Hons) Design degree from the Norwich School of Art. She has had a career working in Design, firstly as paper engineer and children’s book author and illustrator, and then in teaching Textiles and Art at secondary level.

Nancy now runs Artworks, an independent art studio offering a range of creative classes and workshops but mainly fused glass. When not teaching she can be found in her own studio at Artworks, creating her own artworks. Besides creating pieces for sale and exhibiting, she has worked on a number of private commissions.
Nancy has exhibited mostly locally, and is now looking to bring her work to a wider audience.
