About Elena
Elena Fleury-Rojo is a British flameworker and glass blower based in Essex. Working under the name Red Flower Glass, she creates intricate borosilicate sculptures inspired by marine ecosystems, combining traditional flameworking with scientific glassblowing techniques. A multi-grant recipient, her work is held in the Contemporary Glass Collection at Stourbridge Glass Museum and Invisible Reef was selected for the British Glass Biennale. Elena is a Full Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and Trustee and Treasurer of the Contemporary Glass Society.

Elena Ana Fleury-Rojo is a British flameworker and glass blower based in Essex. Working from her studio under the name Red Flower Glass, she creates intricate borosilicate sculptures inspired by marine ecosystems, combining traditional flameworking with scientific glassblowing techniques. Influenced by natural history and museum collections, her work explores the intersection of art and science, transforming delicate underwater forms into contemporary sculpture that celebrates the beauty and fragility of our oceans.

After graduating with a BA (Hons) in Glass Blowing from Buckinghamshire University in 2008, Elena developed her practice through professional experience in New Zealand, London and Belgium, specialising in borosilicate flameworking. She has continued to refine her skills through scientific glassblowing training and masterclasses, including studying with internationally renowned flameworker Simone Crestani in Italy.

A multi-grant recipient, Elena has been awarded both the Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grant and the Heritage Crafts Training Bursary to further develop her practice and specialist scientific glassblowing skills. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in the Contemporary Glass Collection at Stourbridge Glass Museum. Her sculpture Invisible Reef was selected for the British Glass Biennale and she is a featured maker on the Homo Faber Guide.

Elena is a Full Member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and serves as Trustee and Treasurer of the Contemporary Glass Society. She is also the curator of the Endangered Crafts exhibition at Stourbridge Glass Museum, presented in partnership with Heritage Crafts and the Contemporary Glass Society, celebrating endangered and extinct glassmaking skills while raising awareness of the importance of preserving traditional crafts for future generations.

Professional Glasswork Experience (Recent)

2026

  • Curator of Endangered Crafts Exhibition at Stourbridge Glass Museum
  • Appointed Treasurer for the Contemporary Glass Society


2025

  • Accepted onto the Homo Faber Guide as one of their featured artisans in Excellence in Craftsmanship.
  • Completed a four-week Heritage Crafts Training Bursary in Scientific Glassblowing at the National Glass Centre, taught by Brian Jones MBE.


2024

  • Trustee on the Board of the Contemporary Glass Society
  • Advanced Plus Flameworking Masterclass with Simone Crestani at his studio in Italy.
  • Presenting a seminar "My Glass Journey" at Newcastle University, Dove Marine Station, Newcastle, UK.
  • Working in collaboration with Glass artist - Jason Hitchcock based in Berlin. Combining his glass marine animals with my glass corals.


2023

  • Glasgow University, Research Trip meeting Dr Ayako Tani discussing the preservation of Scientific Glassblowing and the fusion of Scientific Glass working with Artistic Glass techniques.
  • Meeting the British Society of Scientific Glass Blowers Scottish Section at Glasgow University and presenting a talk on my work morphing Scientific Glass with Flameworking and my Glass Journey.
  • Working in collaboration with Brian Jones MBE at The National Glass Centre, Sunderland, UK, learning Scientific Glass working techniques
