Imogen Davis LSDC

Glass Making & Stained Glass

About Imogen
Imogen is a glass maker from the UK. She studied 3D Design at Manchester School of Art, where she was immediately seduced by the medium of hot glass. The tactility of objects is a key factor for Imogen, and her pieces beg her audience to touch as well as to admire them. Imogen began exploring the use of textures within the glass, and soon realised the beauty in the optical effects one can create by manipulating the molten material. Contrasting organic form with clean-cut facets soon became the basis of her work, along with the exploration of various colour techniques.

Biography Back to top

Imogen sources inspiration from various aspects of nature and translates her ideas through creating a variety of tactile blown forms.

The Metamorphosis collection was inspired by changes that occur when a chrysalis transforms into a butterfly or moth. Her handcrafted blown glass sculptures represent that delicate transformation expressing different stages through the process of metamorphosis. The sculptures are organic in form with a tactile surface, yet Imogen uses combinations of faceted sides to invite the viewer into the optical effects created through the undulating body of each piece.
