Biography Back to top

I trained and worked as a graphic designer for twenty years before discovering ceramics.

I throw because even now, I still love the immediacy of it and the thrill of something fully formed appearing out of what was a lump of mud just minutes earlier.

I work in porcelain, throwing to a fine finish and decorating with brushed, scraped and scored colour and lines, aiming for a feeling of spontaneity and movement. Even though the work looks spontaneous and done quickly, I try hard to get just the right kind of mark, often removing marks and redoing them until I'm happy.

I'm influenced by everything I see, it can be the classic beach finds but also things in books, at galleries, even on tv. All of these things feed into a melting pot of ideas, marks and colours.
