Ceramics

About Cathy
Cathy's creative journey started with a course on textile design at London College of Furniture specialising in hand woven floor rugs, and then a return to college 20 years later to study ceramics at the City Lit, London. Recently she went on a year's printmaking course at The Curwen Print Study Centre, which inspired her to use the technique of etching/mark making on slabs of clay.

Biography Back to top

Cathy's work takes its inspiration from a childhood spent in Africa and Kuwait. She works with porcelain and stoneware clays, rolled into slabs or extruded and then formed into vessels, figures, animals and decorative panels. She also throws vessels on the wheel.

Her work is decorated with patterns and images that are drawn or carved into the clay before firing; oxides, engobes and glazes are used to define the designs with colour.

The time spent in her studio is a very important part of her life and feels she would be a different person if she couldn't have that time.
