About Sophie
Sophie's work explores movement and growth within a sculptural environment which allows it to take a direction and follow a journey. The work therefore seems to be in suspension, moving and fluid. Drawing inspiration from her Greek and Cypriot heritage. she blends elements of the ancient and futuristic to form a new current existence.
Biography Back to top

Sophie Ambelas is a London-based ceramicist whose unorthodox approach to ceramics is rooted in experimentation, play and mixed media. Self-taught and instinct-led, her work explore the expressive possibilities of clay, embracing unpredictability and imperfection. Drawing on her Greek and Cypriot background, she reinterprets classical forms like amphorae to reflect on generational identity and cultural memory. Her work challenges ceramic tradition while honouring material truth.
