Christine Spencer MSDC
Stitched & Constructed Textiles
After a career as a Calligrapher and Illuminator, textiles stole Chris’s heart. Having explored a variety of textile techniques her current practice is to use hand embroidery and fibre.
Chris holds City and Guilds, NCFE and ‘A’ level qualifications in Embroidery and design and in 2011 achieved a BA(Hons) degree from Middlesex University, London in Embroidery. After holding Licentiate status she was awarded full membership of the Society of Designer Craftsmen in 2016.
In 2001 she founded and still leads the exhibiting group The Material Girls (UK) and in 2008 she founded the Eastern Region Textile Forum.
Chris has taught both Calligraphy and Textile art for over 30 years and is a qualified Further and Higher Education lecturer. She exhibits and curates extensively and since 2014 has been working as a creative partner with the National Trust, Rainham Hall which is leading her work in new and exciting directions.
