A sewing machine is Yumiko’s favourite drawing and painting tool. Yumiko is constantly pushing the boundaries of stitching, drawing and painting in order to create a new kind of art form “Stitch Drawing” with fibre, thread, paper and pigment. As an artist/maker, Yumiko creates figurative images with textured surface and colour.

Yumiko’s journey as an artist /maker started after the completion of the course of the Diploma in H.E. Stitched Textiles with a background of a City & Guild course in Embroidery and life drawings and paintings. With her passion to create figurative images with her own unique art form, she is continuously studying various drawing and painting methods in graphite charcoal, & oil as parallel to her discipline in textiles.

For her stitch drawings & paintings, she uses various techniques such as surface manipulation (scratching and tearing), painting with inks and paints and applying free machine zigzag and straight stitching. She normally uses 9 tonal values of threads (white, grey and black) on the layers of paper and applies acrylic ink and paint.
