Biography Back to top

Sandra’s stitched textiles have developed over time introducing mixed media. She uses machine & hand stitch to embellish collaged papers, news and magazine print, and painted fabrics.

This mix of media provides a range of interpretations of a theme whether from home, across the Atlantic or from colourful birds from the other side of the world.

Sandra also makes three dimensional fabric sculpture / lights. The opacity of the coloured and decorated fabric provides a vibrant highlight / focus to a room setting, when a light source is placed inside the colours are intensified. The fabric, Lutradur lends itself to these spiral and columnar forms, which are painted, appliqued, stitched and heat tooled.

The latest creative endeavors have been developed from studies of Australian Aboriginal bird sculptures. Made from paper, paint & fabrics these 'birdlike' sculptures have a dominant presence, each one with an opinion, hence the title Conversations.
